C510 Liverpool Street and Whitechapel Station Tunnels

Full SCL design responsibility

Optimised with LaserShell™ method

Due to open in 2018

UnPS is designing the Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL) for the primary elements of Crossrail’s C510 project, including construction shafts and adits, platform tunnels, Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) chambers, cross passages, ventilation ducts and escalator barrels. The escalator barrels’ construction, which was undertaken through UnPS pioneering the first UK use of an ‘uphill excavator’, has been shortlisted for Technical Innovation of the Year at the NCE Tunnelling & Underground Space Awards 2015.

In recognition of our specialist capability and track record, Crossrail uniquely transferred responsibility for the SCL tunnel design to UnPS for this project. Additionally UnPS was requested to design the critical structures for a new lift shaft and lobby at Liverpool Street Underground station, to ensure a seamless temporary and permanent works interface.
